The Newstead and Annesley Country Park is a beautiful eco-friendly park just north of Nottingham. We are 5 minutes away from Newstead Railway Station and less than 10 minutes’ drive from Junction 27 of the M1.
We are a park with a difference. The park is run by Newstead Enterprise - a company created by the community in Newstead Village to help create a better future for ourselves. We are run by volunteers who care passionately about the village, the Park and creating a legacy for future generations.
The Park is 220 acres and is situated on the site of the former colliery pit tips. The whole area has amazing wildlife interest and the village is working with a number of environmental groups to protect and enhance the area, half of which is a ‘Site of Importance for Nature Conservation’.
At the heart of our Park will be our eco-build Visitor Centre - based on the earthship method of construction - a building which is pushing the boundaries of green technology and hand built by members of our community.
We will provide events and activities for families, groups and individuals of all ages including angling lakes, health and wellbeing activities, educational and creative projects, workshops and celebratory events such as the Headstock Festival established in previous years.
The ecological plan, the development of access, activities and amenities are a huge long term undertaking - very much work in progress - and there is a lot to see and to enjoy whilst it’s all taking shape.
We welcome everyone to our park - and will gladly provide tours to those that want to find out what we've done and how - part of our vision is to help inspire groups in other communities across the UK to set up similar ventures.
Please come and enjoy our Park and if you'd like to get involved with the Park or any of our projects please do get in touch via our contacts page - we'd love to hear from you.
About - Newstead Enterprise
The partnership deploys the key assets of the village: its strong community, innovative and dynamic individuals and its desire for regeneration, to achieve a sustained transformation that will bring the community closer together, create a new positive image for the village, change lives through employment, education and training, and act as an incubator for future enterprises.
At the heart of the project is the creation of the Newstead and Annesley Country Park – a thriving accessible community resource on the site of the old pit tips. The site which has blighted the landscape of the village for over 100 years is now set to become the very thing which will help create a brighter future for the village community.
Much of the work is led and carried out by volunteers including excluded young people who have helped to create the building as well as designing and establishing their own fishing lakes. Several of the initiatives offer young people access to invaluable training.
The whole site has amazing wildlife interest and the village is working with a number of environmental groups to protect and enhance the area, half of which is a ‘Site of Importance for Nature Conservation’.
